Everyone is familiar with the barcodes on product packaging – but who actually develops these standards and assigns the numbers? It is the worldwide organisation GS1 with its national subsidiaries which is dedicated to optimising global value chains, especially in the etail industry. GS1 Germany has its headquarters in Cologne. In June 2014 it opened its redesigned and expanded Knowledge Center there – with a total area of 2,500 m² for ultramodern conference rooms, but above all for socalled “live components” – areas that “come alive” with the use of barcodes etc. in the respective retail industries. The planners of the Center wanted a realistic lighting situation at the simulate d point of sale that would act as an example and inspiration – and they found the ideal lighting partner in BÄRO. Ontero EC LED spotlights are mainly fitted. They are flexibly mounted on suspended conductor rails and accentuate the freestanding shelving units with their brilliant light. Their light quality is so impressive that the spotlights are even used to illuminate conference areas. For a design with a consistent look Intara EC recessed luminaires and Pendiro EC suspended luminaires from the same luminaire series are fitted – all networked via DALI, to control, programme and integrate the lighting in multimedia scenarios. Furthermore, for the training and seminar rooms BÄRO supplied LED light profiles from the beledi XL series, some of which are suspended and some directly fitted on the ceiling. With the “WideBeam” reflector and an UGR of 19 these luminaires are also extremely well suited to lowglare workplace illumination.
